I’m Casey Tanner, a certified sex therapist. My work is rooted in a deep commitment to helping people live with greater authenticity, particularly at the intersections of gender, sexuality, relationships, and trauma.
My path to this work is deeply personal. I originally planned to pursue a career in evangelical ministry, but a mental health crisis forced me to confront the profound harm purity culture and systemic homophobia had on my sense of self. After coming out, I became committed to understanding and dismantling the barriers that keep people disconnected from themselves and from one another.
As a therapist, I work relationally, drawing from psychodynamic and depth psychology, to help clients move beneath apparent symptoms and into deeper understanding of the unconscious patterns shaping their lives so that we can move towards wholeness and integration.
I also support clients in identifying how external and systemic structures become internalized, shaping their experience of themselves, their relationships, and the world around them. I believe healing happens through compassionate, embodied engagement with the parts of ourselves we have had to exile in order to survive.
As the founder and CEO of The Expansive Group, I lead with a vision of creating more liberatory, psychologically attuned pathways to transformation for our team and the clients we serve.
